AAA reports in their annual driving costs study that in 2016 maintenance costs increased 3.33 percent from the previous year, up to 5.28 cents per mile driven, or $792 annually. Costs vary significantly based on the size and type of the car. Another recent AAA survey found 35 percent of car owners regularly delay or skip scheduled maintenance, which has been shown to lead to higher priced repairs.
